Choosing an Advisor

Insofar as possible, students select their own major or minor advisor within the Department. They are encouraged to match their interests as closely as possible with those of one of the psychology faculty and to select that person as their advisor. The reason for this is that this faculty member will be most familiar with areas in which the student might work as a graduate and will be most able to assist him or her in planning his or her program.

Besides examining the research and teaching experience and interests of each of the professors in the department, students are encouraged to make an appointment with each professor to meet him or her and discuss the students' graduate school or career goals.
