Darcy Scanlin made her professional debut in 2000 designing the 400th anniversary production of the first opera, Peri’s Euridice, at the Getty Center, directed by Isabel Milenski. She continued working with Milenski on Long Beach Opera’s fabulous productions of Jenufa, Trois Opera Minute, and Semele as well as Grand Valley University’s productions of Street Scene and The Pirates of Penzance.
Scanlin has worked extensively with David Chambers, Professor of Directing at Yale and Associate Artist at South Coast Repertory. Currently, their collaboration includes Don Juan in Prague a co-production of Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the Czech National Theatre. Previously, Chambers and Scanlin collaborated on the world premiere of Gues from the Future at Bard Summerscape International Arts Festival in 2004; The Merchant of Venice for Milwaukee Shakespeare; and for South Coast Repertory, The School for Wives, Bosoms and Neglect, and Princess Marjorie.
At South Coast Rep she also worked with director Mark Rucker on productions of The Dazzle and Two Gentlemen of Verona. For “A Noise Within” Theatre she designed The Tempest, and currently is designing Man of La Mancha.
Her film credits include independent short films THE MAN UNDER THE TREE, THE PROBLEM WITH PERCIVAL, THE WOMAN IN THE CAFE, THE PATRIOT ACT, SPIRAL, THE INSECT CHORUS and the feature film THE CIRCADIAN RHYTHM.
Ms. Scanlin was a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts/TCG Career Development Program for Designers; an Individual Artist Grant from the Public Corporation for the Arts; and was named one of nine emerging designers by Entertainment Design Magazine. She received an MFA from CalArts in 2000.
