William Nelson is Professor of Old Testament. He teaches the Life and Literature of the Old Testament course (a GE Requirement), as well as Biblical Hebrew and various upper-division courses in Old Testament studies. A graduate of Westmont, Dr. Nelson earned an M.A. from the Institute of Holy Land Studies, an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University. His areas of expertise are Biblical Languages (Hebrew and Aramaic), Old Testament History, and Old Testament Theology. He has published several entries in the Oxford Companion to the Bible, co-edited an anthology of ancient Near Eastern texts, and is currently working on a commentary on Daniel for the New International Biblical Commentary series. In addition to teaching at Westmont for the past fifteen years, Dr. Nelson has served as chaplain for the United States Air Force Reserves since 1993.
