Westmont Ultimate Frisbee Club (Formerly the Pygmy Mammoths)

Ultimate Frisbee is a very unique game. Frisbee is usually associated with hippies and college campuses. The game of ultimate has caught on quickly to many campuses around the US. Westmont now has an Ultimate Club of its own. This club is based on competition, good times, and hard work. There are no referees encouraging a positive atmosphere during games. Ultimate players are unique individuals as well. It is a game of speed, skill, and mental toughness.

History
Santa Barbara is known for its beaches, Blenders, and beautiful people. However, more importantly it is also the home to one of the fastest growing sports in America. Santa Barbara could be called the Ultimate Frisbee capitol of the world. The University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) has a history of excellence in ultimate Frisbee. They have won several national championships over the last few decades, and have always been a perennial contender.

Westmont College’s own ultimate Frisbee tradition began earlier in the 90’s when a group of students helped form a team with the help of Coach Tom Coles. They gained moderate success and attended a few tournaments. They were known to have carried Frisbees wherever they went and were constantly seen throwing at any opportunity.

A revival has taken place. In January of 2003 the Pygmy Mammoths returned to action. Under the leadership of Dubbs they have turned to a rebuilding mode.

Eventually the goal is to compete with the elite teams of the nation, and keep Westmont in that position of contention every year.
