Westmont College Student Association

The Westmont College Student Association serves as the “voice” of the student body. This council of elected officers represents the student population to the College administration. WCSA also oversees clubs and helps to fund student-initiated projects and programs around campus. WCSA is committed to connecting and unifying all the constituencies that make up the Westmont community.

The President

  • Represent the student body to the faculty, staff, administration and the Santa Barbara community
  • Attend all meetings of the General and Executive Councils
  • Serve as the official representative of the students to the faculty, administration and the Santa Barbara community
  • Attend, preside over, and set the agenda for WCSA meetings
  • Appoint WCSA members and other students, if necessary, to college committees
  • Fill vacancies within WCSA, which occur more than 30 days before a general election, with an appointee who would require a 3/4 vote of the general council to be upheld
  • Veto any vote of the general council within 7 days of the vote. This veto can be over turned by a 3/4 vote from the council
  • Meet with the College President, and other administrators on a regular basis to keep them informed of student needs and to stay informed on any relevant decisions the administration is making
  • Sit on the President's Advisory Committee and the Academic Senate's Executive committee
  • Vote on WCSA matters in the event of a tie vote within the General Council
  • Establish a cabinet of student advisors to act as liaisons between WCSA and their respective student groups and who will advise the General Council at the council’s leisure.

The Vice President

  • Attend all meetings of the General and Executive Councils
  • Assist the President in any reasonable way
  • Function as the WCSA President in the event of the President’s inability to perform their aforementioned duties
  • Fulfill the aforementioned duties of the President in the event that the President resigns or is dismissed
  • Sit on the President's Advisory Committee and the Academic Senate's Executive Committee in the event the WCSA President cannot attend
  • Vote on WCSA matters
  • Sit on any committees to which the President appoints them
  • Lend advice to the President in the process of recommending appointments to the General Council which would be voted on to fill a vacant, dismissed, or recalled position
  • Support and supervise the Class Presidents.

Business manager

  • Attend all meetings of the General and Executive Councils
  • Present in a timely manner, the General Council with a budget to be voted on that will be discussed, amended (if need be) and approved by a majority vote each semester
  • Oversee the revenues, expenditures, and debts of all WCSA monies, and periodically reporting the financial condition of WCSA to the General Council
  • Carry out expenditures approved by the General Council
  • Support and guide business managers from other affiliated student organizations funded by student fees
  • Sit on the President’s Advisory Committee and the Academic Senate’s Executive Committee in the event the WCSA President or Vice President cannot attend
  • Vote on WCSA matters
  • Sit on any committee appointed to by the President
  • Function as the WCSA President in the event of the President and Vice President’s inability to perform their aforementioned duties
  • Advise the President in the process of recommending appointments to the General Council which would be voted on to fill a vacant, dismissed, or recalled position.

Sophomore Class President

  • Serve as a voice and a representative of the sophomore class to the college and the General Council
  • Attend weekly meetings of the General Council
  • Vote on WCSA matters
  • Sit on committees as appointed by the WCSA President
  • Assist in planning the sophomore class chapel
  • Work with the alumni office on activities such as the Sophomore Mugging
  • Give a weekly report at all WCSA General Council meetings
  • Submit an end of the semester summary to the General Council
  • Attend and participate in WCSA activities.
  • Control and budget the funds allocated for the sophomore class.

Junior Class President

  • Serve as a voice and a representative of the junior class to the college and the General Council
  • Attend weekly meetings of the General Council
  • Vote on all WCSA matters
  • Assist in planning the junior class chapel
  • Sit on committees as appointed by the WCSA President
  • Give a weekly report at all WCSA General Council meetings
  • Submit an end of the semester summary to the General Council
  • Attend and participate in WCSA activities
  • Control and budget the funds allocated for the junior class.

Senior Class President

  • Serve as a voice and a representative of the senior class to the college and the General Council
  • Attend weekly meetings of the General Council
  • Vote on WCSA matters
  • Sit on committees as appointed by the President
  • Form and oversee a Senior Cabinet to aid in planning and executing class activities
  • Give a weekly report at all WCSA General Council meetings
  • Assist in planning the senior class chapel
  • Submit an end of the semester summary to the General Council
  • Attend and participate in WCSA activities
  • Plan a Senior Retreat and work with a member of Student Life in planning the budget
  • Work with Career and Life Planning on a variety of events including the Senior Dessert and Senior Etiquette Dinner
  • Participate with the office of advancement in promoting Senior Stewardship
  • Collect nominations for student and faculty speakers for Baccalaureate
  • Control and budget the funds allocated for the senior class.

Multicultural Representative

  • Maintain the focus and attention of the Westmont Learning Standard for Diversity by representing minority student populations
  • Attend all weekly meetings of the WCSA General Council
  • Vote on WCSA matters
  • Sit as a student representative on the faculty Diversity Committee
  • Give a weekly report at all WCSA General Council meetings
  • Submit an end of the semester summary to the General Council
  • Attend and participate in WCSA activities
  • Control and budget the funds allocated for multicultural educational programming
  • Meet on a monthly basis with a council consisting of representative members of all ethnic, intercultural or cross-cultural clubs, groups, or organizations
  • Meet at least twice a semester with Intercultural Programs and Campus Life Offices
  • Represent Westmont at the annual Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation (SCORR) during the spring semester.

Office Administrator

  • Attend all meetings of the General and Executive Councils
  • Take accurate and inclusive minutes at every WCSA meeting; typing and distributing the minutes to all staff members and advisors before the next meeting; keeping copies of all minutes on file in the WCSA office
  • Delegate the above responsibility, with regard to WACC, to a member of the Activities Council.
    Print the agenda for each WCSA meeting at least one day ahead of time and distributing that agenda to all WCSA staff members and advisors
  • Keep records of every WCSA and WACC event on file in the WCSA office
  • Maintain important WCSA documents from past years in an accessible filing system while discarding all irrelevant paperwork
  • Assign office hours to each member of WCSA and WACC
  • Coalesce and distribute all pertinent WCSA and WACC staff information
  • Keep the WCSA office organized and its supplies stocked
  • Sit on the President's Advisory Committee and the Academic Senate's Executive committee in the event the WCSA President, Vice President, or Business Manager cannot attend
  • Sit on any committees to which the President appoints them
  • Follow all guidelines assigned to the General and Executive Councils.

Club Administrator

  • Keep the WCSA office and poster closer organized and its supplies stocked
  • Oversee the detail side of club administration
  • Attend all meetings of the General and Executive Councils
  • Serve as the main WCSA contact person between club leaders and the general council
  • Manage and update WCSA’s website including all club information
  • Attend weekly meetings of the General Council
  • Sit on committees as appointed by the President
  • Submit an end of the semester summary to the General Council
  • Attend and participate in WCSA activities
  • Give a weekly report at all WCSA General Council meetings
  • Administer and oversee the club application process
  • Administer club application interviews prior to voting on funding allocations
  • Fund selected clubs.
