FAQ
What are the individual room charges for the 2005-2006 year?*
A. Double occupancy room (on campus and at Ocean View Apts.) $ 2,688.00/semester
B. Single occupancy room (only available at Ocean View Apts.) $2,888.00/semester
C. Triple Room $ 2,688.00/semester**
*Housing for married/family groups is not available
**Qualifies for a $220.00 rebate at the END of the semester if the room has been fully occupied for the entire semester.
What are the guidelines concerning Triple Room Refunds?
All triple rooms on-campus contain furniture to accommodate three students. A refund will be credited at the end of each semester to the three students who have occupied a designated triple room for the entire semester.
Since the Housing Office cannot guarantee that designated triple rooms will be fully-occupied, counting on a refund is not recommended.
Who do I contact about requesting a room change?
Requests for room changes should be directed to your Resident Director. But if you are currently living off-campus and would like to live on-campus, you should contact the Housing Office.
To change rooms between the fall and spring semester, a student must check with the RD and fill out the proper paperwork by November. Approved room change requests will be announced in late November. Official check-out and check-in procedures, as well as corresponding fines and moving and cleaning fees, apply to old fall room assignments and new spring assignments. The deadline for completing both check-out and check-in is by the end of the semester.
A room change may eliminate a triple room refund.
What are the meal plan charges for the 2005-2006 year?*
A. 15M Plan (15 entrances to the dining commons) $1,745/semester
B. Unlimited (a.k.a. 21) Meal Plan $1,645/semester
*Every on-campus student is required to be on a meal plan, except residents in one of the campus cottages or Ocean View Apartments. First-year students are required to be on the Unlimited meal plan for the fall semester. Students residing off-campus locally, and those in cottages and Ocean View, are not assigned a meal plan unless it is requested in writing.
Who do I contact about requesting a meal plan change?
Submit your request in writing to the Housing Office at housing@westmont.edu
May students reside OFF-campus locally?
Yes and No. Requests to live off-campus while attending Westmont cannot guaranteed. The number of students who reside off-campus locally is limited by a Conditional Use Permit with Santa Barbara County. Students may NOT reside off-campus locally unless they have received approval from the Housing Office.
What happens when you reach the OFF-campus limit?
The Housing Office will create a waiting list for each semester in the academic year. The waiting list is prioritized mostly by date of request, but class standing and special needs are given consideration. All requests by seniors and juniors are considered equally, as far as class standing goes. That is, a senior’s request will not have priority over a junior’s request–unless the senior’s request is submitted prior to the junior’s request. Class standing is given some consideration when it comes to sophomores. That is, a request to live off-campus by a sophomore will be placed at the bottom of the list below all seniors and juniors on the list–even if the sophomore’s request precedes the seniors and juniors. The Housing Office reserves the right to make housing assignments to accommodate special needs.
What is the Off-Campus Rental List?
This list of available, off-campus rentals is viewable online by those with a current Westmont email account and password. This list is not in printed format; it can only be viewed online.
Since neither these accommodations nor those who list them are inspected or screened, respectively, we suggest various protective measures such as making site visits and getting a housing agreement in writing.
How do I make arrangements for housing if I am returning from an Off-Campus Program?
You should submit an online “Housing Request” before departure (or during) for your off-campus program for the semester you plan to return. The Housing Office makes assignments for students returning from off-campus programs and communicates results via the Student Profile.
Who qualifies to be an Early Fall Arrival?
The college invites some students to return early in order to participate in special programs (e.g., Inoculum, Orientation volunteers, Resident Assistants, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball). Early arrivals for the fall semester must be authorized by the Housing Office. All other students may arrive no earlier than 10am on the Saturday before the first day of classes.
Is housing available during the summer?
During the spring semester, the Housing Office announces sign-ups for summer housing. Any student who wishes to occupy campus housing after graduation weekend must make arrangements to do so with the Housing Office. Short-term summer residents, such as intercollegiate athletes and those attending Mayterm or summer travel programs, will be housed in Clark Hall. Westmont summer employees receive priority for housing at Ocean View. All requests for Ocean View are considered on the basis of space available and the duration of the rental commitment.
