D. Short-Term Disability Benefits

Regular employees are eligible for short-term disability benefits if they are disabled by illness or injury that is not job related, have no available sick leave or vacation, and have been absent longer than seven consecutive calendar days.

In order to receive short-term disability benefits, the disabled employee must file for California State Disability Insurance (SDI) benefits. Westmont's short-term disability benefit is the difference between the employee's regular weekly net pay and SDI benefits not to exceed one-half of regular net pay for a maximum of 90 days from the first day of unpaid leave, or until long-term disability payments would begin, whichever is less. Westmont's benefit will apply regardless of an employee's eligibility to receive long-term disability benefits.

The college will pay the coordinated benefit on the next scheduled payday after verifying that SDI weekly benefits have been awarded.
