Thursday, August 23rd
| 8am-1pm | Student Move-in and Check-in Please follow the signs to park and proceed to your residence hall. Student volunteers will be available from 8am until 1pm to help unload vehicles and carry belongings to rooms. To help with the speed and efficiency of the move in process, please come to campus according to the following schedule: All Transfer and Consortium 8:00-9:30 Last names beginning with A-J 8:00-9:30 Last names beginning with K-R 9:30-11:00 Last names beginning with S-Z 11:00-12:30 Location: Page, Clark, Armington, Emerson, Van Kampen, and Ocean View Halls |
| 8am-1pm | Welcome Center* Come to the welcome tent on the lawn in front of Kerrwood Hall to pick up your Orientation folder and schedule and to be introduced to important Westmont resources and departments. Location: Kerrwood Lawn |
| 8am-1pm | Family Hospitality Centers While students are moving in, parents are invited to check-in at the Family Hospitality Centers in order to pick up their nametags and schedules as well as to meet fellow parents. Location: Page Hall Walkway and Clark A Patio, Lower Level |
| 8am-1pm | Computer Set-up Information Technology staff will be available to answer questions, help with set-up, and make future appointments. Location: Page and Clark Residence Halls |
| 10:30-11:30am | Campus Walking Tour Westmont students will lead an informative and enjoyable tour and share knowledge of our historic campus, personal experience with Westmont, and insights into the new facilities. Location: Front of Kerrwood Hall |

| 12:00-1:00pm | Pre-Med Interest Lunch Students considering a course of study in Pre-Med are encouraged to bring their lunch from the DC and attend an informational gathering with faculty from relevant departments. Location: Founders Room |

| 1-1:45pm | Reception for Parents who are Westmont Alumni Parents who are Westmont alumni and their students are invited to a reception with President Gayle D. Beebe. A group photograph of children or grandchildren of Westmont alumni will be taken at 1:35 pm. Location: Hieronymus Lounge, Kerrwood Hall |
| 2pm | Welcome Chapel* The entire Westmont community and guests are invited to this celebratory opening event of Orientation 2012. President Gayle D. Beebe will begin by discussing the founding values of the college. His comments will be followed by a service of worship, with praise, music, and a message for all new students from campus pastor Ben Patterson. Location: Murchison Gym |
| 3:00-5:00pm | Wellness Center Open House Staff from the Health and Counseling Center invite families to visit the facility and ask questions about health and counseling services on campus.Location: Health and Counseling Center |
| 3:30pm | The Westmont Experience* Join us for an entertaining look at the adjustment to college through this presentation. You’ll also hear advice, tips and suggestions about life at Westmont from current students. At the conclusion of this session you will receive your class of 2016 T-shirts. Transfer students attend a special transfer-only session listed below. Location: Murchison Gym |
| 3:30pm | The Academic Transition for Transfer Students* The registrar will provide information about transferring course credit and prepare transfer students to make the best use of their individual appointments with their academic advisers. Location: Winter Hall 210 |
| 3:30pm | Living in Community: Your Student’s First Year Meet the residence life staff who will live with your students and learn more about Westmont's residence life philosophy and the importance of education outside the classroom. Locations: Clark residence hall families – Clark Front Lawn Page residence hall families – Page Multipurpose Room |
| 5-6:30pm | Dinner You will eat with your residence hall section. Check with your RA for your meal time. Location: Dining Commons |
| 5-7pm | Welcome Barbecue for Parents Share an outdoor meal with other Westmont parents and get a glimpse into Westmont’s academic life from a faculty perspective. (Siblings are invited to pizza and a movie nearby). Location: Winter Hall Lawn |
| 7pm | First Lecture* English professor Dr. Jamie Friedman will deliver a dynamic lecture on your summer reading book Elizabeth and Hazel: Two Women of Little Rock by David Margolick. This program is designed to engage your class in a shared academic experience and to give you a peek at classroom life. Location: Page Multipurpose Room |
| 8pm | Res Life Night* This is where you will meet some of your closest community members, including your Resident Director (RD), Resident Assistant (RA), and the other students living in your section. Location: Page Residents in Multipurpose Room, Clark Residents in Murchison Gym, Transfer Students in Armington Lounge |
| 9:30pm | Transfer/Consortium Student Banana Split Extravaganza Come meet residence life staff, returning and other transfer students for food, fellowship, and fun. Location: Van Kampen Courtyard |
Friday, August 24th

| 8am-12pm | Individual Student Academic Advising Appointments* Please refer to the letter in your Orientation folder about academic advising for the name of your advisor and the time and place of your appointment. If you want to make changes to your class schedule, please complete an add/drop slip with your advisor and bring it with you to your first day of class. Location: Your Faculty Advisor’s Office |
| 9am-12pm | Library Open House Stop by to explore the library and fill your library passport with stamps along the way. Trade your library passport for your college ID card. The librarians will be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments provided. Location: Voskuyl Library Main Floor |

| 9-10am | President Beebe Addresses Westmont Parents President Gayle D. Beebe welcomes parents to the Westmont community, examines the value of a Westmont education in today's world and highlights current college priorities. | 10:15-10:50am | Real Westmont Families - Q&A Panel Westmont Parent Council members and their student will share insights and answer your questions to support your student's educational experience, both inside and outside the classroom. Bring your questions about academics, student life, money, cars on campus - anything on your mind!Location: Page Hall Multipurpose Room |
| 11:00-11:30am | The In's & Out's of Your Student's Employment Lori Ann Banez, Student & Alumni Employment Coordinator, will present information on student employment. How does work-study operate? What positions are available? What is WestmontLink? What documents students needs to be hired, and more! Location: Adams 216 |
| 11:00am-Noon | Foreign Language Testing The test should take approximately 20 minutes. If your advising appointment occurs during this time period, plan to take the exam either just before or just after your advising session. A representative from the Language Arts department will be available to discuss test results and help determine the appropriate level of language course for you to take. A score on the test that places you at the fourth semester college level will satisfy the College’s foreign language general education requirement. Students who have scored a 4 or 5 on a foreign language AP exam, or have successfully completed one semester of a foreign language at a college or university will also have satisfied the foreign language GE requirement. Please note that students who have already taken the exam online need not take it again. Also, students who did take the exam from home via the Web and placed in level 4 must take it again in this proctored setting before the Modern/Foreign Language GE requirement will be considered met. | 11:30am-1pm | Intercultural Experience Picnic Lunch will be served beginning at 11:30am; program begins at Noon. Students of color, international, missionary and third-culture students and Cultural Diversity Awardees and their families are invited to hear about the programs and opportunities associated with Westmont’s commitment to diversity. | 1:30pm | How to Win at Westmont* Join the registrar and upper-class students as they share how they’ve learned to succeed academically in college. Meet faculty through video clips as they share their tips for academic success. Location: Page Hall Multipurpose Room |
| 1:30pm | The College Transition: What Parents and Families Can Expect Jane Higa, dean of students, and Stu Cleek, associate dean of residence life, will present information about the adjustment to college, typical transition issues and how families can best support their student. Location: Kerrwood Lawn |
| 3:00pm | Service of Commitment* This event inspires attendees to reflect on what it means to join the Westmont family. Faculty robed in traditional academic regalia participate in this formal ceremony of welcome to the Westmont community. Students will sit separately from parents and at the end of the service will take the “First Walk” with Westmont faculty, a ceremony that anticipates the last walk students take at Commencement. This is the last scheduled event for parents. Location: Murchison Gym |
| 4:30-5pm | Families Say Goodbye Students and families say goodbye before students head off to dinner with their section and families leave campus. Location: Kerrwood Lawn |
| 5-6:30pm | Celebration of Food and Cultures Meet student representatives from each of the five Intercultural Organizations and experience delicious cuisine from each culture. Location: Dining Commons |
| 5:00pm | Presidential Scholar’s Dinner Presidential scholars are invited to an informational meeting to hear more about the challenges and rewards of this important program. Bring your questions! Location: Founders Room |
| 7-9pm | President’s Open House* All first year students are invited to the president’s house for a light dessert. You will go with your residence hall section for this semi-formal event. Transfer and consortium students will meet in the Kerr Student Center parking lot at 6:30pm to walk up together. Location: President’s house |
| 9:30pm | Quizzo Night Compete with your section to win prizes and learn about Westmont’s history and traditions, from founder Ruth Kerr to Potter’s Clay, Christmas tree lightings and Spring Sing. Prepare to be inspired about the college’s history. Student organizations will be highlighted in commercials between quizzo rounds! Location: Murchison Gym |
Saturday, August 25th

| 9-10am | Optional Hike Wander through the campus trails and learn your way around. Hike will be led by Sodexo’s Sustainability Coordinator, and will include a stop in Westmont’s Garden. Location: Meet at Clark Shuttle Stop |
| 9-10am | Catalyst Program Meeting All confirmed participants may attend an orientation to Catalyst, Westmont's new honors program, as well as any interested Monroe and Presidential Scholars. Provost's Scholars may petition to attend. Location: Founders Room |
| 10:30-11:30am | For Women and Men Only Meetings* Come discuss gender-specific issues that arise in college. Led by Westmont staff, these discussions provide a safe place for candid conversations about topics that matter. Location: Men in Upper Kerr Student Center, Women in Page Multipurpose Room. |

| 3:30-6:30pm | Warrior Family Festival Join us for an afternoon of food, fun, games and more. Check your Orientation folder for your festival team assignment and meeting location. Engage in some friendly competition while getting to know your classmates better. BBQ Dinner is served at 5pm. Location: Lovik Field |
| 5:00-6:30pm | Church Fair Local churches will have representatives available to talk about worship opportunities in the community. Be sure to find out about service times and transportation. Location: Lovik Field |
| 7-8:30pm | We are Westmont* Experience the diversity of Westmont’s community through sight, sound and stories. Things aren’t always as they seem. Join upper-class students as they share their life and Westmont experiences. Location: Page Hall Multipurpose Room |
| 9pm | Line Dance Come prepared to take your shoes off and learn some country line dancing skills! No experience is necessary to have a good time. This event is sponsored by the Campus Life Programming Interns. Location: Murchison Gym |
Sunday, August 26th

Morning Worship: You’re encouraged to attend morning services at the church of your choice. Talk to your R.A. about connecting with transportation options to various places of worship in town. | 12pm-5pm | Explore Santa Barbara Head to the beach or explore State Street in downtown Santa Barbara. Buses will leave from Page Hall every 15 minutes beginning at noon. After 4:45pm, the shuttles will revert to their regular schedules. Location: East Beach & State Street |

| 8pm | Vespers Come join with fellow students in a time of contemporary worship and singing. Location: Page Multipurpose Room |
