What to Bring (& What Not To!)
The following lists will give you some guidance as you prepare for residence hall living at Westmont. If you have any questions, please contact the Housing office at (805) 565-6036.
Recommended
- Computer (see Computer FAQs)
- Multiple outlet surge protector
- Towels and Washcloths
- Blankets/pillows/extra-long twin sheets (36x80)
- Alarm clock
- Study/reading light
- Flashlight (for power outages)
- Iron
- Mug or glass
- Laundry bag or basket
- Small basket for carrying personal bathroom supplies (may not be left in bathrooms)
- Headphones for your stereo, electric guitar, or keyboard
- Money for laundry card
Optional
- Bicycle/Kryptonite-type lock
- Sports equipment (Frisbee, tennis racquet, racquetball racquet, etc.)
- Beach chair
- Radio/stereo system (check with your roommate to see if he/she is bringing one)
- Electric fan or small noisemaker (drowns out noise)
- Fluorescent torchiere floor lamp
- Small refrigerator (check with your roommate to see if he/she is bringing one)
What NOT to Bring
- Hot plate
- Microwave oven
- Toaster/toaster oven
- Air conditioner
- Halogen torchiere floor lamp
- Regular extension cords
- Candles/oil lamps (the fire code prohibits them)
- Duct tape
- Incense
- Pets (fish are OK)
- Drums
- Car
- Too much stuff!
- Chairs, desks, or beds (rooms are furnished, and there is no extra storage space)
