Academic Accomplishments
Tremper Longman
Along with the teaching awards, we recognized Tremper Longman with the Faculty Research Award. The holder of the Robert H. Gundry Chair in Biblical Studies, Dr. Longman has been the author, editor, coauthor or coeditor of more than 30 books, and his work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He has a unique ability to write and speak for multiple audiences: he can engage his scholarly peers on complex hermeneutical questions and he can communicate to popular audiences with clarity and respect.
Promotion and Tenure
At the Board of Trustees meeting in early May, the trustees formally voted to grant promotion and tenure to several of our colleagues.
Tenure was granted to Scott Anderson (Art), Phil Ficsor (Music), Steve Julio (Biology), and Steve Rogers (Psychology).
Several faculty were promoted to full professor: Wayne Iba (Computer Science), David Vander Laan (Philosophy), and Telford Work (Religious Studies).
Others were promoted to associate professor: Phil Ficsor (Music), Steve Julio (Biology) Steve Rogers (Psychology) and Jane Wilson (Education).
Be sure to congratulate all of them on these milestones.
Fulbright and Lilly Fellowships
In addition to all of the awards handed out to graduating seniors in the last couple weeks, we’ve received good news about some recent alums. Tara Tran (History, 2010) has just been awarded a Student Fulbright Scholarship for the coming year to study in Cambodia. Her family were refuges from Cambodia, and she will be examining the aftermath of genocide there. Kristin George (English, 2009) has been named a fellow in the fifth cohort of the Lilly Graduate Fellows Program, a program sponsored by Valparaiso University.
