Grey Brothers
A-R Editions, of Middleton, Wisconsin, recently published an edition of Mexican baroque music by Grey Brothers. The publication features Brothers' scholarly editions of musical settings of the Passion story according to Matthew, Luke, and John as composed by Antonio Rodríguez Mata, who was maestro of the music at the Mexico City Cathedral from 1614 until his death in 1643. The book includes an introductory essay that places these works in their historical context. Brothers also described these and other settings of the Passion in an article, "The More Hispano in the Polyphonic Passions of Mexico City," published in the Fall/Winter 2011 issue of the Latin American Music Review.
