Urban Internships by Major
Please see below for a list of internships that students from each major might be interested in, based on the internships that students on the Urban Program have done in the past. Please note that the list is certainly not exhaustive, and that all internships are open to all majors.
There are also many internships in San Francisco that are available which are not listed here, and we can accommodate students from any and all majors.
Liberal Studies
826 Valencia
A typically eclectic San Francisco creative writing academy founded by award-winning author David Eggers, and disguised as a “Pirate Store” to help kids learn writing can be fun. Interns get to work with local school students from a variety of underserved and marginalized populations. www.826valencia.org/
Girls on the Run
A social service agency aimed at promoting health, self-esteem and community among underprivileged young women through mentoring and regular city-wide running events. www.gotrbayarea.org
Real Options for City Kids (ROCK)
A combined in-school and after-school internship working with underprivileged kids as a mentor/coach to students participating in tutoring and additional sports-related offerings. www.rocksf.org
San Francisco Unified School District
There are many opportunities to intern in a classroom at any of the following schools: Rosa Parks Elementary, Eldorado Elementary, Horace Mann Middle School, Gallileo High, Wallenberg High, and Washington High School. www.sfusd.edu
