Diversity at Westmont

We seek to enrich our campus by 1) assisting our students in the continued development of their cultural, ethnic and spiritual identities; and 2) by further cultivating an appreciation and respect for the diversity of God’s kingdom. There are three ways that we hope to achieve this interaction with intention through Intercultural Programs: to Support, Celebrate and Educate. To fulfill these objectives, we organize events and gatherings for students, faculty and staff.

Intercultural Programs exists so we can benefit from and bless each other with our stories and perspectives.

We seek to encourage our underrepresented, international, and third-culture students by promoting their social and academic success, cultivating their continued involvement in leadership among their peers and nurturing their relationship building within the community.

We encourage our majority students to explore and share their own cultural and ethnic heritages, to understand their position in society and culture, and empower them to advocate and ally with their peers.

We desire that as a redemptive community we will grow in our understanding of cross-cultural issues so we may better empathize and exhort one another to live in truth and harmony as well as being better able to live and serve in a world that is often marked by ethnic, religious, socioeconomic and racial strife and struggles.

Our programs and events serve to educate, celebrate and challenge our campus in heart, mind and spirit about the intrinsic value of difference with our common foundation in Christ.

We seek to educate and empower our campus to seek justice, equity and dignity for all people by deepening our understanding of power, privilege and position in our society and culture.

We attend student conferences addressing multicultural issues and developing student leaders for diversity. The Racial Equality and Justice Group (REJ) is a group for students to learn about, discuss and respond to racial inequities, and pursue social justice in our society and on our campus.

Our hope is that you feel that this is a place where you can be who you are and to discover what that means. Thus we have several WACC sponsored student clubs who come together because of common affinity such as the Latino Cultural Organization (LCO), the Black Student Union (BSU), Asian Student Association (ASA), and Nomads for our missionary kids, third culture and international students. All students are welcome to be part of these groups
