Understanding Real College Costs

State and public colleges and universities receive tax dollars to subsidize the cost of educating all of their students. Some colleges are financially supported by their church affiliation. While Westmont does have endowments (gifts from donors and alumni that allow us to offer substantial scholarships), we do not receive the same governmental subsidies that public schools do. As an interdenominational college, we are not financially supported by a church, which is why our tuition may be higher than some other colleges and universities. In response, Westmont commits more that 81 percent of our financial aid resources to scholarships and grants for you.

$26 million in total financial aid was awarded to students for 2008-09.

At Westmont, we strive to keep students’ post-graduation debt manageable.  The average debt for Westmont graduates is less than $17,000, while the national average is more than $22,000.
