Construction update through June 30
- Lower Roadway/West Campus Parking Lots – As early as Monday, June 29, construction crews will close a stretch of the lower campus road from the reservoir to Van Kampen (map). There will be access at the old Cold Springs entrance for the lower campus loop. Access to Van Kampen will be available from the west.Workers will create paths and walkways near the small parking areas south and east of Armington and Reynolds Gallery through mid-July. Impact: Equipment noise may be a disturbance to Reynolds Hall, Deane Field, Deane Hall, Deane Chapel, Armington and Reynolds Gallery area.
- Middle Roadway / Baseball Field / Track Field / New Observatory – The construction fence south of the track has been relocated. Pedestrians should follow the fencing and stay outside the construction area. The road to Las Barrancas will remain closed through mid-July as crews install utilities under the new road and work at the baseball field. A temporary pedestrian walkway is in place for foot traffic through the next four weeks. Crews will pour the foundations for the track storage building Wednesday, June 24.
- Impacts: Concrete trucks involved in the concrete pours will be traveling through campus all week impacting the Murchison Gym complex, Hubbard Hall, Whittier Science, and to a lesser extent, Porter Hall. Foot traffic around campus should be mindful of the large vehicle traffic.
- Upper Roadway – Crews will continue to connect utilities near the entry to the Page Hall parking lot through June. This work will require a single lane closure to be in effect and will impact the ability to park in the spaces west of the bookstore for a day or two. A complete road closure at this area will be required in the coming weeks. Specific dates have yet to be determined. Impacts: Equipment noise during the grading and utility installation process may impact Page Hall, Kerrwood Hall and the library.
- Adams Center – Crews will continue to pour the concrete slab on grade over two more days, yet to be scheduled. Crews will work on below slab connections to
mechanical, electrical and plumbing connections while installing grade base through June. Impacts: The drilling, grading, concrete and steel work will be fairly disruptive to the surrounding buildings including Porter Hall, Whittier Science, and Voskuyl Library.
- Winter Hall – Workers continue to erect shoring on the west side of Winter Hall. Impacts: Equipment noise may impact the Murchison Gym complex, Hubbard Hall, Whittier Science, and to a lesser extent, Porter Hall.
- Central Plant – Crews will Install chilled water pipes Monday, June 29. Workers will continue to waterproof and backfillthe building once the pipe is installed. Impacts: Concrete trucks involved in the footing pours will be traveling through campus during March. Foot traffic around campus should be mindful of the large vehicle traffic as well as traffic near Murchison Gym and the west lane of the main road near the pool.
- Emerson/Clark Parking Lots – On Thursday, June 25, a giant crane will be hoisting the temporary dorm trailers from the Clark lot and loading them onto trucks, blocking access to the Emerson parking lot for most of the day. There will also be periods of limited access near the post office and the Page parking lot.
- Las Barrancas Gate –
The gate to Las Barrancas is closed to automobile traffic through June while crews install utilities under the new road and work at the baseball field.
- Temporary Parking –
The temporary parking lot located east of Van Kampen and north of Armington at the south entrance is closed and only available for construction parking and storage.
- Dust Control – Workers using a water truck will be controlling dust on weekends throughout the spring and summer months.
