Observatory
Location: Southeast corner of the baseball field
Configuration: 1,456 SF; 1 level plus dome
Structure: Light steel frame
The observatory will be the new home for the Keck Telescope. It will be located adjacent to the athletic fields to minimize light intrusion and the heat waves that rise from paved surfaces during the night. The lower level contains the warm room where students and faculty view images from the telescope on computer monitors. This space will also serve as a classroom. The dome from the existing observatory will be relocated to the upper level of the new building. Outside the dome a roof deck provides space for portable telescopes and classes.
