Cellular Loaner Policy

This policy applies to all those borrowing an AT&T digital cellular phone from the Westmont College Telecommunications Department.

Charges
Loaner phones may be checked out for a minimum of one week period at a cost of $10.00 plus airtime incurred. Phones may also be checked out for a month at a cost of $30.00 plus airtime incurred.  Taxes may be added to your cost depending on the amount of airtime used.
Rates
Standard airtime costs are $0.23 per minute. Long distance charges of $0.15 per minute will be applied when user is calling outside of Santa Barbara County. NOTE: If you are located outside of Santa Barbara County and place a call to a number in the same area that you are located, it is not a long-distance call. (e.g. If I'm in Orange County and dial a number in Orange County's (714) area code, it is a local call.) Roaming charges are $0.60 per minute when the user is located outside of the home area. Our home area is between San Luis Obispo and San Diego.

Tips
1. The icon in the lower right corner, displays the battery's strength. A full battery is dark, while a drained battery is clear. The icon in the lower left corner is signal strength. If their is no reception, it will appear as a series of dashes, while increased strength will show a series of stairs depending on how strong the signal is.
2. The "D" stands for digital and the "A" stands for analog. The phone will always seek a digital signal first, but if digital reception is poor it will revert to an analog signal. NOTE: The phone's extra functions can only be accessed in digital format.
3. The power must be on to make or receive a call. Press and hold the "No" button to turn the phone on. While in the original screen, press and hold the "No" button to turn the phone off.
4. To make a call, press the "Yes" button after dialing the phone number. To receive a call press the "Yes" button. To end a call, press the "No" button.
5. The volume button is located on the side of the phone. It can raise or lower the volume of the phone's earpiece during a call. It can also mute the ringer when receiving a call.
6. If you forget your cell phone number, press "9,8,7" followed by the right arrow key. Your number will display on the screen.
7. To store a number on speed dial, press the side button. Press "Yes" for "Memory." Press "Yes" for "Store Mem." Enter the name and number to be stored. The phone will automatically select a number for that person. It will be listed at the bottom of the screen. To dial, you need only press that number and then "Yes." To look up a speed dial number, press the side button, choose "Memory," then "RCL Memory." Scroll with the arrow keys to find the desired number.
