Karen Sloan
Administrative Assistant
Karen joined the Office of College Advancement in March 2010 as assistant to Vice President Reed Sheard. She began working at Westmont in April 2007 as the assistant to the Vice President of Administration and Planning as well as part time for Dr. Sheard when he was hired as the college’s CIO. Karen’s first year in advancement was full of activity with the launch of the Bright Hope for Tomorrow campaign, included travel to assist at campaign events around the country.
Prior to joining “Team Westmont”, Karen worked at The Samarkand Retirement Community in marketing and as Dining Room Manager, overseeing three of their four dining rooms. She was the assistant to the administrator of Santa Barbara Christian School for seven years, where her daughter went to school. She has worked at local savings and loans and at the former Grace Church as secretary, worship coordinator and wedding coordinator. Not one to work just one job, Karen enjoys making wedding cakes, catering when she can and the occasional “day of” wedding coordination, as well as assisting her husband with his business.
Karen, a Santa Barbara native, is married to Michael Sloan, a local piano tuner and owner of Furniture Medic. They have one daughter, Madalyn, who attends UCSB.
