Imagine Math Day 2015

To most outsiders, modern mathematics is unknown territory. Its borders are protected by dense thickets of technical terms; its landscapes are a mass of indecipherable equations and incomprehensible concepts. Few realize that the world of modern mathematics is rich with vivid images and provocative ideas.
--Ivars Peterson, The Mathematical Tourist

What is IMD?

Imagine Math Day gives high school students of all abilities an opportunity to explore and learn new mathematics in a collaborative, creative setting.

Students will spend the morning learning some fundamental ideas in a new branch of mathematics. Equipped with that learning as map and guide book, they will explore this "unknown territory" more deeply in small groups, working on a project and producing a poster explaining their ideas.

Imagine Math Day is not a competition. It is open to high school students of all abilities. The only requirement is a desire to spend a few hours thinking about some new ideas.

Students may come as a group from their high school, with a teacher, or may come on their own. Groups of 8 or more students from one school must come with at least one teacher for every 10 students.

There is no cost to attend Imagine Math Day . Lunch is provided for all participants (students and teachers). Since space is limited, registration is required (see below).
