Vincent Bacote: "Natural Law: Friend of Common Grace?"

Some regard natural law as one form of what some Reformed theologians call “common grace.” Abraham Kuyper is the theologian perhaps most linked to the doctrine of common grace, but he is not always or often readily linked with a doctrine of natural law. How might natural law and common grace come together as a part of Kuyper’s legacy for today with implications for the ongoing development of robust theological rationale for public engagement? This presentation will suggest that common grace can be enhanced by natural law theology in a way that encourages and models charitable engagement with other Christian traditions (such as Catholicism) and also addresses some of the concerns offered by critics of Kuyper’s expression of common grace.
