Parent Support Net - August 2015

Dear Westmont Parent,

Welcome to Westmont!

We’re so excited your student has decided to come to Westmont. While much of the campus prepares for our incoming class, the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations focuses entirely on you, the parents of our new students. At Westmont, we consider you an important member of the larger Westmont community, and we plan a host of events to acclimate you to being the parent of a Westmont student.

Teri Bradford RouseAs a new Westmont parent, you’ll receive a monthly newsletter from our office providing practical information on ways to help and bless your student, updates on college activities, and insights into the student experience. Please feel free to suggest any topics that might interest you.

One year ago, I stood in your shoes, anticipating my daughter’s move into Page Hall. I can think of no better place for her to be. We work hard—and pray even harder—that you will feel the same way. We can hardly wait to meet you and will be available all day Thursday and Friday during Orientation to guide you, answer questions and help you feel at ease here.

See you soon!!

Meet the Alumni & Parent Relations Staff

We look forward to meeting you at Parent Orientation!

meeting-youYou still have time to register for Parent Orientation on August 27-28 if you haven’t already done so. Our schedule is chock full of great information as well as opportunities to meet other parents, ask questions of Westmont faculty and staff, and experience the special Westmont community you have joined. Register today, but no later than August 14, so we can plan for you.

Does Your Student Need a Job?

student-workingPlease read this important information from Lori Ann Banez, Westmont’s student and alumni employment coordinator in our Career Development and Calling office, if your student plans to work on campus.

Read the entire article below to learn which original documents students must bring to campus so they can work:

Many Westmont offices and academic departments enjoy hiring students to help in various capacities, and these on-campus positions provide students with real-world, resume-building experience. We sincerely hope your student will take advantage of opportunities to gain practical skills and experience, whether through employment on or off campus or an internship.

All students interested in working at Westmont need certain important original documents with them to verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. According to federal law, all employers must use Form I-9 to verify an employee’s identity and eligibility for employment in the United States at the time of hire. Failure to present original documents at this time may result in your student losing an opportunity in a tough job market. Copies, faxes or scans of original documents are never acceptable.

To discover which original documents your student can use, see the Lists of Acceptable Documents or view the full version of the current Form I-9. Students with questions about this information should contact Career Development and Calling at careerdev@westmont.edu or (805) 565-6031.

We look forward to working with your student to find a calling and prepare professionally to venture into the world of work.
