Parent Support Net - August 2017

teriDear Westmont Parent,

Welcome to Westmont!

We’re so excited your student has decided to come to Westmont. While much of the campus prepares for our incoming class, the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations focuses entirely on you, the parents of our new students. At Westmont, we consider you an important member of the larger Westmont community, and we plan a host of events to acclimate you to being the parent of a Westmont student.

As a new Westmont parent, you’ll receive a regular newsletter from our office providing practical information on ways to help and bless your student, updates on college activities, and insights into the student experience. Please feel free to suggest any topics that might interest you.

Three years ago, I stood in your shoes, anticipating my daughter’s move into Page Hall. I can think of no better place for her to be. We work hard—and pray even harder—that you will feel the same way. We can hardly wait to meet you and will be available all day Thursday and Friday during Orientation to guide you, answer questions and help you feel at ease here.

See you soon!!

Teri Bradford Rouse ’77

Senior Director of Alumni and Parent Relations

Does Your Student Need a Job?

student workingPlease read this important information from Julissa Delgado, Westmont’s Student Employment Coordinator in our Career Development and Calling office, if your student plans to work on campus.

Read the entire article below to learn which original documents students must bring to campus so they can begin to work.

Many Westmont offices and academic departments enjoy hiring students to help in various capacities, and these on-campus positions provide students with real-world, resume-building experience. We sincerely hope your student will take advantage of opportunities to gain practical skills and experience, whether through employment on /off campus or an internship.

All students interested in working at Westmont need certain important original documents with them to verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States.According to federal law, all employers must use FormI-9 to verify an employee’s identity and eligibility for employment in the United Statesat the time of hire. Failure to present original documents at this time may result in your student losing an opportunity in this competitive job market. Copies, faxes or scans of original documents are never acceptable.

To discover which original documents your student can use, see the Lists of Acceptable Documents on page9of the currentFormI-9.Students with questions about this information should contact Career Development and Calling at careerdev@westmont.edu or (805) 565-6031.

We look forward to working with your student and help navigate the student employment process as well as toprepare professionally to venture into the world of work. -Julissa
