New Year, New Students - Get the Facts about the Class of 2020

StudentsWe’re excited to welcome an amazing group of 348 first-year students and 54 new transfer students, representing 17 countries outside of the United States.

Thirty-two percent of the class of 2020 comes from outside of California and represent 23 different states. Thirty-nine percent of the incoming class identifies as Hispanic, Asian American, African American, Hawaiian Pacific Islander, Native American, and/or mixed race.

“I’m impressed by the global perspective and experience this new class of students brings, including their broad and varied interests in the sciences,” says Silvio Vazquez, dean of admissions. “We’re pleased to see their exceptional talent, compassionate spirits and strong work ethic. They also represent many hard-working families who see great value in the Westmont experience and appreciate our caring faculty who will mentor and challenge their students as they grow in their intellect and Christian faith.” Read more about our new students.

Learn Your Student’s Class Verse

StudentsAs students begin the new academic year, you may wish to include their class verse in your prayers for them.

Class of 2017: "No mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

Class of 2018: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

Class of 2019: “By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples: if you love one another.” John 13:35

Class of 2020: “Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

Parents Council

Parents CouncilWestmont’s Parents Council exists to support you. Like you, council members have students at Westmont and experience many of the same emotions, joys and trials that affect you. They seek to cultivate communication between parents and the administration and meet twice a year with college staff. They also pray for the parents and students at Westmont. If you have questions or concerns, please contact any of the council members listed on their website.

Is Your Student Having Trouble Making cell-phone calls on campus?

PhoneOur Verizon users may be interested in knowing the status of the proposed Verizon cell tower on campus. Reed Sheard, vice president for college advancement and chief information officer, provides an update. He also shares helpful information about the option of Wi-Fi calling .

Westmont has worked for the last three years with Verizon and a local installation company to put a Verizon cell tower on top of Voskuyl Library. We’ve filed all the permits, held community meetings, and received official approval for the project.

The agreement between Verizon and Westmont has entered its final stages, and we hope to complete it in the next 60 days. The discussions are progressing well.  READ MORE

If we reach an agreement, we plan to perform preparatory work throughout the semester without disrupting the use of the library. Installation of the antennas and other equipment would occur during Christmas break. Once finished, the tower will dramatically improve Verizon coverage throughout campus.

We’ll provide updates during the semester to keep Verizon customers informed about our progress.

In the meantime, Wi-Fi calling may provide a solution, and newer smartphones typically offer this feature.Wi-Ficalling allows users to make and receive phone calls over a localWi-Finetwork.Inareas of campus where cell coverage is poor, it can keep your student connected.

See some basic information about usingWi-Ficalling below. You can also contact Verizon orAT&T customer support if you have additional questions.
