Course Description

Saint Paul looms large over the rise of Christianity and the emergence of New Testament. Students in this course shall consider Paul's role as a missionary to the Gentiles, as a founder of Christian communities, as an interpreter of Israel's Scriptures and as a pastor whose counsel is arguably as relevant, and as controversial, today as ever.

Base your comments on course readings, class discussion and your own experience in a denominational context. Aim to identify points of resonance and points of dissonance between Paul's vision for the Christian community and the social reality of your tradition. This paper might focus on a specific issue or two (e.g., participation of women, spiritual gifts) or it can range more broadly. Think of it as a conversation between Paul and your congregation. Submit this piece on the last day of class.
