Applications of Mathematics
Contrary to the popular view held by most non-mathematicians and even some mathematicians, I believe there is an integral relationship between mathematics and the Christian faith. More specifically, I would like to define the concept of “integrability” of an academic subject with Christianity and show that mathematics is very “integrable,” perhaps more so than other disciplines. One of the reasons for this is the abstract nature of mathematics, which allows us to use mathematical concepts to model all sorts of phenomena in various fields, e.g., natural sciences, psychology, education, business and economics, and linguistics. If mathematics can be used in such a versatile way, it should not be surprising that it can also be used to model various ideas of theology. Some have already tried to do this very thing, and I would like to examine the validity of these attempts and justify the use of mathematical models in theology.
