Reflection on Evangelicals and Catholics in Conversation

Drawing principally on John Paul II's addresses featured in Tim Perry's book, choose one feature of Roman Catholic theology (perhaps John Paul's, perhaps belonging to the greater Catholic tradition) that you think can make a significant contribution to evangelical theology. Describe the effects it might have on evangelical theology as well as evangelical life.

Then, drawing principally on the observations of the evangelical authors in Perry's book, choose one feature of evangelical theology that you think can make a significant contribution to Catholic theology, including John Paul's specific encyclicals. Describe the effects it might have on Catholic theology as well as Catholic life.

In making your argument, you may well want to consult the encyclicals themselves, as well as secondary material in both traditions, but do not get bogged down in supplementary literature. Strive for contributions that are realistic rather than utopian, precise rather than vague, and insightful rather than obvious.

Please keep your paper 4-5 pages, double-spaced, and follow the directions in my handout for writing papers.

Remember, I want to see proper style, clear writing, a thorough answer to the question, and explicit citations of course materials.
