Welcome rOSEMARY MAIONE, cont.

Rosemary Maione

You have been involved in several different kinds of work, including lab work for an engineering company. Can you share about that?

I worked for a small company that is involved in the design and fabrication of semiconductor lasers. Although my responsibilities were mainly administrative, the engineers trained me to test lasers and I had the opportunity to spend some time in the clean room testing them. We were required to wear a full clean-room suit (booties, hood and all) and my favorite part was that access to the room was given through an iris scan—it felt very James Bond to me.

I understand from everyone that you love to cook—and that you are a terrific cook. What are your favorite meals to make?

I was fortunate to be born into a family with a professional Italian chef for a father and a professional baker for a mother. I have inherited both their genes and, although they are very different types of cooking, I love them both. I love making interesting appetizers, desserts, and celebratory cakes for friends, but my favorite meals to prepare are my chicken marsala and my Bolognese sauce.

You have been very involved at Santa Barbara Community Church for many years. What have been some of the most rewarding roles you have undertaken with the church?

I am thankful to have been a part of SBCC for a long time. One of the most rewarding roles I have had was being a youth group leader for 8 years. I started with a group of girls as they entered 5th grade and moved forward with them until they graduated from high school. Sixteen trips to Forest Home camps and weekly small groups were the highlights of those times. I also enjoy a number of small groups that I help to lead, particularly my weekly homegroup. The others in my group bring different perspectives and help to enlarge my views of faith and living in community.

I don't expect to allow you any free time in this job, but just in case you did have a free moment what are some of your favorite things to do in Santa Barbara?

With the minuscule amount of free time that I will have from now on, I am a theatre fan and enjoy going to see plays both here and in Los Angeles. As you might have surmised from a previous answer, I am a foodie and love trying new restaurants in town and going back to favorites. In the summers, I love taking advantage of the fun events that Santa Barbara offers such as movies at the courthouse, concerts in the park, and the various ethnic festivals at Oak Park.
