Center for Applied Technology About CATLab
What is the CATLab?
Last summer, Westmont hired a pilot team of seven students to create software for the college’s advancement services. The tools they created allowed Advancement to dramatically improve their donor relations, donor tracking, and fundraising systems. At the end of the summer, the students presented their work at the Enabling Impact Conference. These students’ stunning success served as the catalyst for the creation of the CATLab.
The CATLab is the summer lab for Westmont’s Center for Applied Technology (CAT), composed of high-achieving students working closely with staff and tasked with building solutions for the tech problems faced by departments such as admissions, advancement, and IT. Located at the Westmont Downtown Building on Anapamu Street, the CATLab gives students the opportunity to secure competitive internships in Santa Barbara with prestigious companies such as Appfolio or to participate in cutting-edge research with Westmont professors.
This summer, the CATLab has committed to creating components within Salesforce for Westmont’s admissions office. These components will help Admissions manage data efficiently so that they can provide consistent, personalized interactions with prospective students. The CATLab will also lead the way in merging the advancement and admissions instances of Salesforce into a single, integrated Customer Relationship Management system (CRM). These improvements form part of a larger effort to transform the way technology shapes the Westmont experience.
What We’re All About: Our Values
AUTHENTICITY: We bring our authentic selves into our work. As people of faith, we long for greater meaning, for wider impact, and for deeper community. We are thrilled by success, refined by failure, challenged by conflict, and inspired by forgiveness. We will run into problems and encounter obstacles, but we will face our whole journey with honesty and fellowship.
CURIOSITY: We are fascinated by technology, hungry for knowledge, and humbly aware that we don’t have all the answers. We exercise wisdom in our own use of technology and create space for deep thought and reflection. We are not afraid to ask questions, seek solutions, and support each other as we pursue truth.
COMMITMENT: We have taken on a task for Westmont College, and we will be faithful in fulfilling our promises. By finishing the tasks set before us, we will gain experience in our fields as well as certifications and credentials, which we value as external markers of our internal drive. We are people of character: we will get the job done, and we will not give up.
