Housing Sign-Ups for Nex Year Squatters Privilege
What is squatters privilege?
Squatters privilege, or just "squatters" as it is commonly referred to, is the recognition and consideration given to students to request to return to the same residence hall for next year. It does not grant consideration for reserving the same room, as specific rooms are not able to be requested on the application. So, do not misconstrue squatters as a way to secure your same room. Rooms are reserved at the selection events.
Who qualifies for squatters?
NEW: Only students who reside on upper campus in Clark, Emerson and Page, and have less than 3 points (i.e. rising sophomores), can qualify for squatters privilege. There is no squatters privilege for residents in Armington, GLC, VK or Ocean View.
How does squatters work?
When a rising sophomore on upper campus requests to live in their same hall for next year, the application will recognize his/her squatters privilege. It may be on a double-room application, or a triple room application (i.e. for any optional Flex-Triple request in Clark, Emerson or Page). Only one student is needed for squatters privilege. For example, if a Page resident and a qualifying Armington resident submit a request together, they would qualify as a squatters group for Page (only). If a Page resident submits a request with a Clark resident, they would get squatters privilege for either Page or Clark. And, if two Page residents request together, they would be given more consideration (but for Page only, of course).
Squatters does not increase the points in a group request. Rather, qualifying squatters groups are given more consideration in the competition for a limited number of alotted rooms during housing sign-ups.
