Professor Russell Smelley, M.Ed.


About Russell:

A Virginia native, Russell is in his 29th year at Westmont teaching a variety of Kinesiology courses and physical education electives while serving as the men’s and women’s head coach for Cross Country and Track & Field. In the fall 1999 he was inducted into the NAIA Coach’s Hall of Fame, and in both 1988 and 2002 Russell received the Westmont College Social Sciences Teacher of the Year award.


Presentation Topic:

What is it about Life that makes Death so hard to talk about? A personal perspective on death and dying and the benefits of faith, family and friends to help get through the ordeal of losing a loved one.  Sharing about how our daughter Alyssa's life and death influenced and changed us. Presentation can be done in conjunction with my wife Allison as a speaking partner.(Topic can be done as a 60-90 minute session or a 2-4 part seminar class)
