Lines of Inquiry Westmont Art Faculty Exhibition Fall 2025
September 4 - November 1, 2025 Opening reception: September 4, 4-6pm
At Westmont, we believe true learning requires both thought and action. While the liberal arts emphasize critical thinking, artists, scientists, and athletes alike understand that knowledge also emerges from engagement with the material world. Interacting with tangible elements like form, color, texture, and scale is both an act of making and a practice that cultivates wisdom. Through this robust process of exploration and inquiry using printmaking, painting, sculpture, photography, or illustration, much can be learned about the medium and the artist.
In the Art Department, faculty members model active inquiry in their own artistic practices and outside the studio. Not only do they translate their skills into works of art, but each professor displays sincere dedication to teaching, mentorship, and community engagement. Their example inspires students to imagine creative futures of their own, from teaching and studio practice to broader applications of artistic vision in the world. The works in Lines of Inquiry embody this spirit of exploration, demonstrating how art can illuminate meaningful truths, encourage curiosity, and invite us all to consider the ways in which creating can shape a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we share.
