BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

Mike Ryu is an assistant professor in the department of mathematics and computer science. He received his master’s degree in computer science as well as a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2018. Since then, he worked in the software industry in the San Francisco Bay Area as a software engineer, an agile coach, and an engineering manager for four and a half years before coming to Westmont in 2023 as a 1-year visiting professor. His passion in computer science is empowering people with technology in the form of effective computer science pedagogies that aim to eliminate the otherwise high barrier to entry into the field of computing. Mike hopes to use his experience from having been a computer science education researcher and a software engineer/manager to equip students in his department to be better prepared for the professional career ahead of them. He is currently living with his wife, Jessica, and 1 year old daughter, Autumn, near downtown Santa Barbara. If you would like to learn more about Mike, please visit: mikeryu.com.
