Dr. Gundry received his doctorate in New Testament Studies from Manchester University in 1961. He has received the Teacher of the Year Award three times, the Faculty Researcher of the Year Award, and the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. His many publications, in addition to numerous articles and book reviews on New Testament studies, include: “Commentary on the New Testament,” a verse-by-verse explanation with a literal translation, commentaries on Matthew and Mark, “A Survey of the New Testament,”  "Jesus the Word according to John the Sectarian," “The Old Is Better: New Testament Essays in Support of Traditional Interpretations,” numerous other works.
