Deeply grounded in the liberal arts, our engineering program blends courses in engineering, physics, mathematics and chemistry. We equip graduates to find innovative solutions to enduring problems by cultivating collaboration, problem-solving and moral discernment. Increasingly, solutions to local and global challenges require insights from engineers, especially when addressing social mobility, caring for the environment, reducing poverty and promoting human welfare. Our graduates benefit from thorough technical and scientific training and the interdisciplinary sensitivity and moral imagination of the Christian liberal arts. We’ve embraced the National Science Foundation’s challenge to prepare adaptive engineers committed to blending science, engineering and the arts.

The 2026-2027 badge of distinction for excellence in Engineering reflects Westmont’s dedication to preparing future engineers through a robust combination of theoretical foundations, hands-on experiences, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Currently 59 students major in engineering. Westmont proudly graduated its first engineering majors in May 2023 with a graduation rate of 89% of those who declared an engineering major in their sophomore year.
Faith Palombi ’21, an Engineering Physics major at Westmont, conducted original research in both nuclear physics and astronomy alongside professors Robert HaringKaye and Michael Sommermann. Her contributions earned her second authorship on a paper submitted to Physical Review C, a leading journal in nuclear physics. She is now working as a software engineer at General Motors in Austin, Texas.
Logan Hodgson ’21, came to Westmont as an Augustinian Scholar and graduated as a triple major in engineering physics, math, and music. He received the Outstanding Graduate Award in both engineering physics and music. During his time at Westmont, he served as principal cellist in the Westmont Orchestra, was an outstanding TA in several classes, and conducted research at Las Cumbres Observatory. He is now pursuing a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Engineering graduates find tremendous opportunities across a broad range of industries such as design, energy, sustainability, environmental resources, robotics, automation, vehicle design, aeronautics, space, manufacturing and the internet of things (IoT).
Engineering continues to be one of the most rapidly growing majors in the country, with demand in the job market for engineers soaring. With many industries employing engineers in Santa Barbara County, Westmont engineering students will find a rich source of internships during college and jobs when they graduate. Opportunities for women and ethnic minorities are especially abundant.
