Ansel Adams in 1940s Los Angeles

A Retrospective of the PHotographer's Work in Southern California

The Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art seeks to educate students and the larger community about the power and value of the visual arts in our world through physical, critical and spiritual engagement with the creative process and its result.

Courses in the visual arts have been offered at Westmont College almost since its founding, although the Art Center and Reynolds Gallery were formally dedicated in 1986. Both the gallery and academic department were housed in a restored historical landmark building, which had originally served as a dormitory for the Deane School in the early 20th century.

Since the Museum’s opening, the permanent collection has expanded from just over 400 objects to nearly 2,500, thanks to strategic acquisitions and many generous gifts. Today, the collection reflects a broad spectrum of artistic movements and periods, featuring work by both local and international artists across a wide range of subjects and media.
