WINTER 2003

Westmont Magazine Soccer by the Surf

The Westmont women’s soccer team has brought home the NAIA national title for three of the past four years. Now the Warriors have secured the whole tournament.

Westmont has signed a contract with the NAIA to serve as host of the Women’s Soccer National Championship in both 2003 and 2004. The 20-team tournament will be played at Santa Barbara City College’s La Playa Stadium in November.

“Westmont College is honored to be hosting a national athletic event of this magnitude,” Athletic Director Dave Wolf said.

The Westmont women’s soccer program has been a dominant force in the NAIA, winning national titles in 1985, 1999, 2001 and 2002. The team has competed in the last seven national tournaments and will receive automatic bids the two years that the event is in Santa Barbara.

“The NAIA is excited about Westmont hosting the women’s soccer national championship,” said NAIA President and CEO Steve Baker. “Soccer has such a rich tradition in the region and certainly at Westmont.”
