Believing that the worship of God is at the heart of all that we are and all that we do, the Campus Pastor's Office leads Chapel services to bring the Westmont community together to love and glorify God through prayer, music and teaching from the Word of God.
Chapel is held three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30-11:20 a.m. in Murchison Gym. It is the college’s belief that chapel has an important role in Christian liberal arts education, and, as such, is mandatory for all students.
Worship: Chapel brings the community together for worship. The college experiences unity in its diversity. Through exposure to different styles of worship, students learn to appreciate various forms and traditions of worship and expression.
Community: Chapel promotes a community of disciples with a distinctive purpose and sense of identity. It is the only time the entire community gathers together on a regular basis.
Church Connections: Chapel is not meant to replace the church Sunday experience. Students are encouraged to go out and find a church on their own. Some churches send buses, shuttles and vans to the campus on Sunday morning to make sure that students without a car do not have an excuse not to go to church!
Prayer Chapel: The Nancy Voskuyl Prayer Chapel is a place to spend time with God and to pray and meditate in a quiet spot away from noise and distractions.

"The Lord Bless You and Keep You"
A Note from Dr. Michael Shasberger
We have begun the process of teaching the entire student body the Peter Lutkin setting of the benediction from Numbers 6, "The Lord Bless You and Keep You," so that our community can sing it in Chapel and in other settings. We sang it last semester in the Student Award's Chapel and again at Baccalaureate and it was beautiful. In preparation for singing it together this year, please feel free to download the attached pdf to rehearse on your own whenever you would like. If you want private coaching, I'd be happy to help, or you can visit one of these youtube postings to learn it from your personal computer:
Music will be provided whenever it is sung in Chapel, but you are welcome to print and bring your own copy with you.
Download a pdf copy of the benediction.
May the Lord truly bless and keep each of you,
Mission Statement: The philosophical mission of Church Connection is help connect students to churches in order for them to grow spiritually in ways in which just being at a student at Westmont Liberal Arts college will not be able to fully develop.
Hebrews 10:25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
The practical mission of Church Connection is to help connect students to churches within the Santa Barbara community. Church Connections is geared to provide the following services:
- With the assistance of the Student Formation Coordinators (SFCs) our office provides students with information about a wide variety of churches which includes service times, addresses, and phone numbers.
- In addition, during the 1st week of the semester students can indicate on the back of their Chapel card their desire for assistance with church transportation. We will personally get back to each request with ride information and suggestions.
