The symbols on the newly revised Westmont seal relate to the Christian faith and the ideals of a Christian liberal arts college. The open Bible shows the source of our authority in faith and practice as well as the active learning that occurs within a rigorous Westmont education. The torch reflects knowledge lighting both the mind and the spirit. The cross represents the death and salvation of Jesus Christ. The star and crown symbolize the incarnation and lordship of Christ, and the three points of the crown proclaim our Trinitarian faith. The motto, CHRISTUS PRIMATUM TENENS, Christ holding preeminence, comes from Colossians 1:18: “That in all things He might have the preeminence.” The Westmont colors are maroon and white.
