Jonathan D. Hicks, Lighting Designer, The Pirates of Penzance, is an experimental scenographer. He currently oversees the theatre design and technology program at Huntington University. His areas of expertise include lighting design, installation art, and performance art. His favorite credits include Reckless, Urinetown: The Musical, the world premiere of Night on the Galactic Railroad, Spring Awakening, Anon(ymous), and The Clouds. His assistant lighting design credits include The 39 Steps, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Othello, and The Sonia Delaunay: Art & Fashion exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum with the Luce Group. In 2010, he was the lighting design intern with the Luce Group at the American Alliance of Museums Expo in Los Angeles. He is a current member of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), as well as the International Museum Theatre Alliance (IMTAL).
He has had the privilege to work with the Santa Barbara based Lit Moon Theater Company as stage manager, technical director, and lighting designer. He is happy to have been a guest lecturer of the theatre arts department at Westmont College from 2005 to 2008. During which time, he won a Santa Barbara Independent Lighting Design award for his work on Aristophanes’ The Clouds.
