Jonathan D. Hicks is an experimental scenographer and technical director. He currently oversees the theatre design and technology program at Westmont College. His areas of expertise include technical direction, lighting & sound design, color theory, installation art, and performance art. He recently completed his first production design for a Youth for Christ film entitled, LIKENESS. His favorite theatre credits include Pirates of Penzance, Reckless, Urinetown: The Musical, the world premiere of Night on the Galactic Railroad, Spring Awakening, Anon(ymous), and The Clouds. His assistant lighting design credits include The 39 Steps, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Othello, and The Sonia Delaunay: Art & Fashion exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum with the Luce Group. In 2010, he was the lighting design intern with the Luce Group at the American Alliance of Museums Expo in Los Angeles.
He greatly enjoyed his time as Assistant Professor of Theatre Design and Technology at Huntington University from 2011 to 2014. A vibrant and exciting program for young theatre artists to begin their training, explore the craft of theater in all of its nuances, while growing as a community of believers in Jesus Christ.
He has had the privilege to work with the Santa Barbara based Lit Moon Theater Company as stage manager, technical director, and lighting designer. Jonathan will be returning for the first time to Lit Moon as the lighting designer and technical director for their 2014 production of The Cherry Orchard.
He is happy to have been a guest lecturer of the theatre arts department at Westmont College from 2005 to 2008. During which time, he won a Santa Barbara Independent Lighting Design award for his work on Aristophanes’ The Clouds.
