Congratulations on being selected as a candidate for Westmont's Augustinian Scholars Program!

In order to be considered for the Augustinian Scholars Program, you must attend a candidate weekend. This is an outstanding opportunity to experience Westmont in person. During the weekend, you'll have the chance to get to know current Augustinians, build relationships with other candidates—many of whom may be in your classes next year, and get a taste of classroom and campus life at Westmont. While it is an interview context where it's important to put your best foot forward, you can anticipate doing so as part of a team pursuing truth in a Christ-oriented community.

Preparing for Your Candidate Weekend

Attire

We kindly ask that you please dress in business professional attire, as this is an interview process.

We recommend that you dress in business professional attire with layers, as our weather varies throughout the day. We strongly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes (our campus is on a hillside). We will be moving around campus, so we want to make sure that your feet are comfortable!

Visiting Santa Barbara

Spend some time in paradise! Here are our recommendations for your time in Santa Barbara. Please remember candidates will be hosted overnight at Westmont with a current Augustinian Scholar.

We highly recommend flying directly into Santa Barbara when possible.

Q: What should I expect during the Candidate Weekend? How can I best prepare?

A: The Candidate Weekends are designed for a mutual sharing between Westmont and the Augustinian candidates. We put in place several opportunities for students and families to peer behind the scenes of Westmont into the heart of what we do here. From chapel, to mock classes, to tours, to dinner in our Dining Commons and an overnight stay, we give our guests a close look at life on campus. Candidates also engage in discussion with one another and with faculty to share about themselves and their perspectives, and we offer our students the opportunity to respond to the experience in writing, reflecting on the nature of Westmont’s education and their potential place in it. There’s nothing a candidate can do between now and the event to prepare. In fact, from our point of view, candidates have been preparing for this opportunity their entire lives. We simply ask that they come and be themselves.

Q: When will I be notified if I am selected to the Augustinian Scholars Program?

A: We aim to notify all candidates of our decisions by early March.

Q: Would the Augustinian Scholarship replace my existing academic scholarship?

A: If you are selected to receive the 75% of tuition Augustinian scholarship, this amount will replace your existing academic scholarship. You may still be eligible for additional financial aid, talent scholarships, or outside scholarships, which can be stacked with your Augustinian award. As for other Augustinians receiving the supplemental scholarship, this will be added to the current academic scholarship you were awarded upon your admission to Westmont.

Q: How many candidates are selected to join the Augustinian Scholars Program?

A: Following the two events, we will invite 60 students into the Augustinian program—30 at the 75% tuition scholarship level and 30 with an additional award supplementing their existing academic scholarship.

Q: Should I bring my parents with me?

A: Yes, you are welcome to bring up to two parents or guests to the Augustinian weekend! While students are in cohorts, there will be sessions designed for parents, making it a wonderful opportunity for them to experience Westmont. Please note, however, that we do not provide housing accommodations for parents or guests, so they will need to arrange their own lodging.
