Artist Statement
I am a visual storyteller who expresses on canvas and evokes a story within the viewer too. During this coronavirus pandemic, I am finding myself especially grateful for the courageous men and women on the front lines that stand as beacons of light as they nurse sick and dying patients regardless of race, creed, color, situation, or circumstances. By painting these COVID-19 ICU nurses, I am offering my heartfelt thanks, gratitude, and respect.

Artist Bio
Jean-Marie Hamel was born on a Louisiana farm in the middle of the twentieth century. She earned a BA degree in Fine Arts from SMU. Hamel has furthered her training by studying with various artists including Russian-born Regina Lyubovnaya, James Surls, and Michelle Dunaway. Her artwork is included in various collections around the world, including the Women Who Dared in NYC.
