Westmont Magazine Musicians to Perform in Vienna and Scandinavia in 2020
The Westmont Orchestra’s 2016 appearance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., has led to an invitation to perform at the Musikverein, the fabled concert hall of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on June 28, 2020, as part of the 250th celebration of Beethoven’s birth. In addition to playing in Vienna, the orchestra will present concerts in Salzburg (June 24) and Prague (June 30). Given the unusual timing, the Music Department has invited alumni to join students for this exciting opportunity to perform in an exclusive and acoustically marvelous concert hall. The program will feature Professor Han Soo Kim performing the final movement of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Other pieces will include Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and the first movement of Symphony No. 7.
The Westmont College Choir will conclude its 2019-2020 season with its customary triennial international tour, and they’ve chosen to travel to Scandinavia May 4-13. The singers will open in Copenhagen, journey by overnight ferry to Oslo, Norway, and continue overland to Stockholm. The choir will schedule concerts in major churches and cathedrals and will participate in worship services and join in performances with local choirs in a variety of settings.
