Westmont Magazine Westmont Athletes Repair Cold Spring Path
More than 200 Westmont student-athletes worked with the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade, Safe Routes to School, the Montecito Trails Foundation and Cold Spring Landscape on Sept. 22 to repair cracks and holes in three paths that lead to Cold Spring School.
“These Warriors brought leadership, talent and tools to build and restore almost half a mile of walking paths that serve the elementary school students and the local neighborhood,” said Dave Odell, Westmont athletic director.
“It was great to invest in our community around Westmont,” said Michael Oldach, a senior men’s cross country captain. “I enjoyed the spirit of all the athletes working together. We don’t often get to mix the athletes together, and it was fun to work and laugh together.”
Westmont’s 17 athletic teams find many ways to serve the local community: participating in after-school programs, serving the homeless community and offering sports skill clinics to youth. Teams competing in NAIA national championships often participate in outreach programs in the host cities.
