Personal Information:
A Virginia native, Russell is in his 39th year at Westmont teaching a variety of Kinesiology courses and physical education electives while serving as the men’s and women’s head coach for Cross Country and Track & Field.

In both 1988 and 2002 Russell received the Westmont College Social Sciences Teacher of the Year award. In 1994, he received the Cross Country National Coach of the Year. In the fall of 1999 he was inducted into the NAIA Coach’s Hall of Fame and received the NAIA National Coach of Character Award in 2015. He presented at the Global Coaches House during the 2012 London Olympics on the benefits of having a written coaching philosophy. Russell also presented at the International Council for Coaching Excellence Global Coaching Conference in Durban, South Africa in September 2013 and was a keynote presenter at the Kansas Cross Country/Track & Field Coaches Annual Conference in January 2015.
