Welcome to the Theatre Arts Department

Welcome from the Westmont College Theatre Arts Department, and the Westmont Festival Theatre!

We have a comprehensive curriculum, including courses in acting, directing, dramatic literature, theatre history, and design. Not only do we wish to develop a broad and rich knowledge of the theatre, but we are committed to studying the art form in the light of the heritage and principles that inform our faith.

Our production seasons are always provocative and exciting. We stage a diverse range of interesting plays, including great classics, contemporary plays, original works, and musicals. Recent seasons have included Jane Eyre, The Skin of Our Teeth, Frankenstein, Antigone, Richard II, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Saint Plays, The Bourgeois Gentleman, The Mariner, and Top Girls. We strive to create bold, exciting theatre, and have developed a reputation for stagings with interesting interpretations and excellent acting.

Three current and former Westmont artists were honored with Independent Theater Awards at a ceremony May 19 at Center Stage Theatre downtown. The Indy Awards, given annually by a panel of theater critics from the Santa Barbara Independent and the Los Angeles Times, honor excellent productions throughout the Santa Barbara area.

John Blondell, professor of theater arts and the founding artistic director of the Lit Moon Theatre Company, received an award for his direction of Lit Moon’s Queen C. Theater alumna Amber (Palmer) Angelo ’07 was honored for her role in Lit Moon’s production of For Sheer Love of Me last summer.
