Accommodations

Westmont College will facilitate equal access to students with a disability to an academic or non-academic program by providing reasonable accommodations. The nature of the accommodation is considered individually, on a case-by-case basis, referring to recommendations and functional limitations as noted in disability documentation. Additionally, determination of accommodations is further based on discussion during a meeting between the student requesting accommodations and the director of the Office of Disability Services (ODS).

Decisions regarding the approval or denial of a request will generally be made within five business days of the receipt of the Student Intake form, Confidentiality Agreement form, and supporting documentation. In some cases, it may take up to ten business days and additional documentation may be requested.

Possible accommodations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Priority Registration
  • Note-taking
  • Extended Time on Exams
  • Distraction Reduced Exam Rooms
  • Recording lectures (per recording lecture agreement)
  • Materials in Alternative Text Format (e.g. Learning Ally, digital text, etc.)
  • American Sign Language interpreters
  • Real-Time Captioning
  • Use of an Assistive Listening Device
  • Keyboarding use for essay exams
  • Physical education modifications
  • Housing/Dietary
  • Assistance animal
  • Accommodation Letters to Professors

The above accommodations are examples only and are not guaranteed. You must make your requests for particular accommodations in a timely manner. Please refer to ODS Rights and Responsibilities for details.

Please keep in mind, providing a requested accommodation depends on the nature and functional limitations of your disability, the particular class or classes you take, as well as whether the accommodation would fundamentally alter the nature of the course or program. In some instances, a diagnosed and documented medical, psychological, or learning disorder may not be considered a disability and status as a student with a disability or disability accommodations may be denied.
