Check-In

Check-In is the required process that residents must follow in order to occupy a room and obtain a room key from residence life staff.

Spring, 2013

Returning residents may return to their campus room assignments on the weekend immediately preceding the first day of spring semester (January 5-6).

Students who are new to Westmont, or returning from an away-abroad program during the fall, or returning as a reapplicant for the spring, may complete their check-in with their residence hall staff at the following times:

  • Saturday, January 5, from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM OR 7:00 – 9:00 PM
  • Sunday, January 6, from 7:00 PM– 11:00 PM

IMPORTANT: You must complete check-in during one of the listed times. Moving into your room outside of these times could result in a $50 charge.

Some intercollegiate athletic groups may be allowed to return to campus prior to check-in weekend. However, these must be approved in advance with Housing. In order to reside on campus, the student must be already checked into his or her spring housing assignment. New student athletes who have not been in campus housing during the fall semester are not provided housing until spring housing check-in (i.e. during the weekend immediately preceding the first day of classes--see above). See Special Housing>Christmas Holiday for more information.

Mayterm, 2013

On-campus housing during Mayterm (i.e. during the first five weeks of the summer period) will be in Clark Hall. If necessary, some short-term housing may be provided elsewhere. Mayterm housing is only available to students who enroll for Mayterm or a travel Mayterm program, or for student athletes who officially participate in extended, intercollegiate athletics and have been approved by their coach and Housing to reside on campus for one or more weeks in May.

The hours for check-in on Sunday of graduation weekend depend upon whether or not an application for Mayterm on Campus or May Housing for Athletes has been requested in advance:

  • Eligible students and athletes who submit the online application for on-campus housing for Mayterm/May after the last spring final will check-in to Mayterm housing from 12:00 noon-2:00 PM on the Sunday afternoon immediately following graduation.
  • Eligible students who submit the online applicationon for on-campus housing for Mayterm/May by the last day of spring finals have EARLY CHECK-IN privileges on Sunday morning from 10:00 AM-12:00 noon.

The Mayterm RD for 2013 is TBD, but maytermRD@westmont.edu is the designated email address for inquiries. Check-in usually takes place at Clark-A Classroom. Those who cannot check-in during the regular check-in hours on Sunday may contact the Mayterm RD by email to arrange a later check-in during the week. For more information and the online application to request on-campus housing during Mayterm, see Mayterm on Campus or May Housing for Athletes. However, please note that online applications are not accepted after the the last spring final. Requests after this day must be made in person from 12:00 noon-2:00 PM during Mayterm housing check-in.

Summer at Ocean View, 2013

A space in one of the Ocean View Apartments (OV) may be requested by any current student who commits to the minimum rental period of 10 weeks (70 consecutive nights) within the summer period. Current OV residents who wish to remain at OV, but only to attend Mayterm, may appeal this 70-night committment. However, appeals will not be considered until the end of April in order to give priority to requests which meet or exceed the 70-night commitment. Applications submitted by student summer employees receive priority consideration until April 1. After April 1, all requests are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Check-in at the start of the summer period is from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM on the Sunday of graduation weekend. It is scheduled several hours after the residence halls officially close on campus in order to allow adequate time for spring residents at OV to check-out and vacate, and for any cleaning that might be possible after their departure. Students who will check-in to OV must wait until OV staff are available. Students are responsible for their own personal belongings during the transition.

For more information, and the online application for requesting summer housing at Ocean View, see Summer at Ocean View. The application for Ocean View during 2012 will not be updated until Mayterm housing rates have been established, but you may view the 2012 application for informational purposes. The Mayterm room rate serves as the basis for determining the Ocean View room rate.
