If you're a prospective student, we offer a special welcome. We hope that what we've made available to you here will be helpful in getting acquainted with our programs. As you may know, there continues to be a demand for teachers in many parts of the country. If teaching is consistent with your skills and interests, this may be an especially good time to consider the field.

A Personal and Supportive Community
Westmont Education programs are personal. Small classes allow close advising and a level of interaction with peers and professors difficult to achieve in programs with large numbers. Carefully selected field placements and close supervision from full-time faculty mentors help you develop deep and lasting professional relationships.
Experienced Instructors, Committed to Practical Preparation
Westmont Education programs are practical. The Department's professors are themselves experienced K-12 teachers. We consciously build into coursework and field placements as much hands-on, applied experience as possible, preparing candidates for the realities of K-12 classrooms.
Fast-track or Regular Options to Meet your Individual Needs
Westmont Education programs are flexible. With careful planning, prospective elementary teachers may be able to complete subject-matter requirements and professional coursework in four years, rather than the usual five, allowing you to begin your teaching career immediately upon receiving your BA. For students desiring more electives or who wish to explore Westmont's many off-campus programs, we also offer fifth-year programs for both prospective elementary and secondary teachers.
Successful Graduates Equipped for the Classroom
Employers of our first-year graduates consistently rate our teachers high with respect to professional preparation and overall teaching competence. On the survey of 2001 graduates, for example, principals ranked 80% of our Westmont grads "outstanding" in the categories of classroom management and professionalism. With respect to overall teaching competence, one hundred percent of the graduates were rated either "above average" or "outstanding."
