Welcome to the office of College Counsel

With a focus on education and proactive leadership, the office of College Counsel seeks to ensure the college’s compliance with legal obligations under state, federal and local law; advise members of the executive team, faculty and staff on college matters; conduct training programs on departmental and institutional legal obligations; and make recommendations for new or updated college procedures and policies.

On the rare occasion when litigation is unavoidable, the office of College Counsel serves as a liaison to, and¬†oversees the work of, external counsel in the defense of lawsuits. This reactive management of the college’s legal health is not optimal but is a sometimes necessary approach which, if done with sufficient proactive planning, will minimize the negative consequences that can flow from litigation.

Explore this website to review some of the policies administered by the office of College Counsel and other offices; see frequently asked questions and answers regarding the college’s legal affairs; and read legal news you may find of interest.¬†

Should you have questions regarding any of the college’s legal affairs feel free to contact College Counsel Toya Cooper.
