8:00 a.m. Check-in

Candidates and their guests check in with the Admissions team and receive information on the events and activities of the schedule.

8:30 a.m. President’s Breakfast Reception

Candidates and their guests will join the Admissions team for breakfast on the President’s Patio at Kerrwood Hall and have a chance to be greeted by President Gayle D. Beebe before the program begins.

9:00 a.m. Morning Welcome and Program

Hear from President Gayle D. Beebe and Provost Kim Denu about the unique value of a Westmont liberal arts education and Augustinian Honors Program. Irene Neller, vice president for enrollment, and Jesse Covington, director of the Augustinian Scholars Program, will officially open the weekend.

10:00-11:15 a.m. Chapel

Chapel is an important part of Westmont’s commitment to faith and what it means to worship and live in community together. Experience it firsthand!
Location: Murchison Gym

11:30 a.m. Lunch (Cohorts 1-5)

Experience Westmont’s Dining Commons for lunch. You’ll gain a firsthand perspective of how community is formed around meals and breaks together! 
Location: Meet outside of Murchison Gym

11:30 a.m. Tours (Cohorts 6-10)

Take a tour of one of the country’s most beautiful colleges; enjoy the natural beauty and sacred spaces that abound on campus. 
Location: Meet outside of Murchison Gym

12:30 p.m. Tours (Cohorts 1-5)

Take a tour of one of the country’s most beautiful colleges, enjoy the natural beauty and sacred spaces that abound on campus. 
Location: Meet outside of Dining Commons

12:30 p.m. Lunch (Cohorts 6-10)

Experience Westmont’s Dining Commons for lunch. You’ll gain a firsthand perspective of how community is formed around meals and breaks together!

2:00-3:00 p.m. Faculty Panel on the Liberal Arts

From its founding in 1937, Westmont has held its deep commitment to the liberal arts. Hear from a faculty panel, hosted by Provost Kim Denu, about the faculty/student relationship, learning expectations, and how faculty blend a deep love for God with a rigorous academic schedule and program. 
Location: Global Leadership Center

3:15 p.m. Scholar-Candidate Discussions

Candidates will be introduced to their cohorts. Cohort leaders and a faculty leader will guide candidates to a classroom for a time of discussion. 
Location: Various Locations

3:15 p.m. Parents’ Perspective

Parents and guests will hear from current parents of Augustinian Scholars on their experience with the program. 
Location: Global Leadership Center

3:50 p.m. Scholarships and Financial Aid

Location: Global Leadership Center

4:30 p.m. Sunset Reception: A Taste of Santa Barbara

Candidates and guests will get a glimpse of the sunset setting over the Pacific Ocean while enjoying delicious appetizers capturing a taste of the local flavor. Mingle with and meet other candidates, current Augustinian Scholars, leadership staff and faculty members, and get an in-depth view of the Augustinian community and Westmont’s hospitality that makes this place apart.
Location: Museum & Theater Patios

 

5:30 p.m. Students paired with their hosts and go to dinner in the Dining Commons (Parents and guests, enjoy dinner in Santa Barbara!)

 

7:00-8:30 p.m. Game Night: Scholars & Candidates only!

Come for the candy, stay for the camaraderie!

Students arrive at 8:30 a.m. and Parents arrive at 10:00 a.m.

 

8:45 a.m. Breakfast

Students start the day with their student hosts for breakfast in the dining commons.
Location: Westmont Dining Commons

 

9:15 a.m. Scholar-Candidate Discussions

Candidates will rejoin their cohort and faculty leaders for a morning time of discussion.
Location: Various Locations

10:30 a.m. Academic Break-out Session

Candidates will attend one of three lectures with their cohort group to experience a class session with a Westmont professor.
Location: Various Locations

10:00 a.m. A College Prep Parent Course

Parents and guests enjoy a light breakfast and hear from Edee Schulze, Vice President for Student Life.
Location: Winter 210

11:45 a.m. Scholars Candidate Banquet

Guests will rejoin their candidates as they celebrate their accomplishments that have led to this momentous occasion. They will enjoy a menu cultivated around the tastes of Santa Barbara and dive deeper into the journey of an Augustinian Scholar and a Liberal Arts experience.

2:00 p.m. Prayer Circle

A beloved tradition of the Augustinian Scholars Candidate Weekend, current Augustinian Scholars will surround candidates in prayer before they head into the essay response.
Location: Page Hall

2:15 p.m. The Candidates Respond

Candidates will write their individual essay response.
Location: Various Locations

2:15 p.m. Program Overview

Parents and guests enjoy a Q&A with Jesse Covington.
Location: Founders Room at the Dining Commons

3:30 p.m. Closing Reception

Candidates will reunite with their guests for a closing reception and parting blessings.

Location: Global Leadership Center

 

*The Westmont College Store is located west of the Kerrwood Hall courtyard and fountain and is open on Friday 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tell them you are with Westmont Admissions and receive 25% off! 

 

*Recommended Attire: Feel free to wear your best, as this is an interview experience.
